Wolf dogs (or wolfshund) is one of the most rare and mysterious
breeds of dogs. It’s rather hard to call them “pets”. However, a wolf dog can
be the most reliable, clever, brave and tender four-legged friend.
We were invited
by a breeder of wolf dogs (Chekhoslovatskiy volchak) , whose farm is situated not far from Moscow.
Breeding of these dogs is under particular control. The blood of puppies of each
litter is to be tested on the proportion
of wolf and dog blood, as wolf genes are very strong.
Even very young wolf dogs are extremely dynamic and
are able to jump over a two meter high fence easily. They need at least two walks,
three hours each.
The instructor gave me an opportunity to work with an
adult male wolf dog. It is an exciting experience! However, not all traditional training methods
can be applied. It was a little easier for me to establish contacts with the
wolf dog, as my elder pet is of an aboriginal breed, independent and aggressive.
However, when I weakened my attention and looked straight into eyes of a wolf
dog I made a serious mistake as it provoked a wave of aggression.
To have a wolf dog (but a female) became my dream now.
Communicating and working with this
breed can be fascinating.
There is a fragment of a professional work with a male wolf dog.
