A rare meeting with a Balkan turtle
Today during our
morning walk my dog found in a deep ravine a Balkan turtle. It happens rather
rarely now, as turtles practically disappeared
in the South of Europe. Many years ago their habitat covered France, Spain, Greece, the territory of
the former Yugoslavia. But humans killed these slowly moving animals for meat
and turtle-shells or for keeping in cages. In 1971 only Yugoslavia
exported to Germany and some other European countries about 40 000 turtles.
Now they are partially under legal protection,
however their population is going down. Our dog barked at the turtle however he is a well-bred creature and didn’t even
try to touch her or to turn her upside down.

Spring salad for your pets
Nettle is widely used in medicine and cosmetics from the ancient time. This plant is also a valuable source of vitamines and energy for your pets, who particularly need live vitamines after Winter. Nettle can be found in the woods or just near fences in the garden, in the sun places as well as in a shadow. A small amount of nettle should be poured over with a boiling water, then finely chopped. A fresh green salad is ready and can be added to your pet's food.

TODAY
Tales of hope abound in the wake of the Boston Marathon bombings, and even four-legged workers are pitching in to provide relief (and cuddles) to those in need. Throughout the week, the Boston community can count on canine comfort from five specially-trained golden retrievers deployed by Lutheran Church Charities in Addison, Ill.
On Tuesday, three of the organization’s comfort dogs flew from Chicago to Boston, where they joined two retrievers who have been working with bereaved students and parents at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Conn., every day since December.
“People talk to the dogs — they’re like furry counselors,” Tim Hetzner, president of Lutheran Church Charities, told TODAY.com. “It’s a chance to help bring some relief to people that are shaken up because of the bombings.”
